Reflections from the Pew 30

Where the Co-op is being built in Aberdour there used to be a Fish Shop – in the next few weeks we will see some tiles from the walls of the shop – and seeing how fish are important in the Bible.
We don’t know the occupations of all the 12 disciples – several were fishermen and one was a tax collector and one a Zealot. Being a fisherman then as today was a difficult job working in all weathers and at night and then spending their spare time mending their nets – they were hard workers. I wonder if Jesus were to choose his 12 disciples today, would they be council workers, or work in care, in retail or in hospitality?
One story is of Jesus calling the first disciples found in Luke 5:1:11.

What I find amazing about this story is the last verse – “So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.”

For most of us this does not mean that we should leave our current job, but it does mean that we are called  to participate in God’s mission to the world in Jesus Christ. We all are called daily to reorient our priorities to align with God’s priorities, to use the gifts God has given us in service to others, to share the good news of Christ in word and deed.
