To celebrate our 900th anniversary, over the past year we have been looking at Rev. Rutherford’s children’s address, where he talks about the history of the church.
We are very lucky that Rev Rutherford kept the original notes and we wish to thank his daughter, Jan, for passing them on to St Fillan’s.
I wonder which ones you have remembered?
I never knew about the 1627 bible, it was displayed in the church for many years and is now in the National Library of Scotland, it must be one of the oldest bibles in English, you can see it was well used – see Reflection 107.
I have also liked the ones of the past ministers, as he said, ‘the good and the bad’. I was amazed to find about the 5 generations of Liston’s connected to St Fillan’s – see Reflections 117 & 118. I wonder what the congregation thought about St Fillan’s being deroofed and moving to the ‘new’ church – which is now the church hall.
In the collection, there are other childrens’ addresses about the history – we may come back to them in the future.
