As we get ready for Christmas some of the congregation have chosen a carol and written a few words. Thanks to all those who contributed. Join in the signing!
We have missed the St Fillan’s Hand Bell Ringers playing at Christmas. The Ladies from the St Fillan’s Hand Bell Ringers have hosen O Holy Night, which is one of their favourites – here played by one person! See the last song for the words.
Susan Morton has chosen O come, O come Emmanuel. “I grew up in a Manse and every Christmas a Choir was formed and the practises were held in our house. Bits of harmonies and tricky descents filled the house and we had to be quiet whilst the singing was happening. This Carol was one sung early on in Advent and then, it seemed to me, put aside. I do enjoy singing this and often hear my mother’s voice singing “Bid all our sad divisions cease and be yourself our King of Peace”.
Liz Peartson has chosen Away in a Manger. “This is a favourite carol. Reminds us of being small, singing it at Sunday School Concerts in the Church Hall and in St Fillan’s. It portrays the magic of Christmas, the innocence of children and the Christmas Story – simply and peacefully”.
Lesley Gordon has chosen In the Bleak Midwinter. “My reason for choosing this is that I sang it almost every Christmas as a child as part of Mrs Rutherford’s choir. She was the minister’s wife. She was a wonderful, warm and joyful person, always smiling. All of us who sang in her choir think of her very fondly”.
Eric Williamson has chosen Wait for the Lord. “This is a beautiful Taize Community chant that captures the sense of waiting in expectation of the coming of the Messiah. I love Jacques Berthier’s music. This is perfect for the second Sunday in Advent”.
June Weatherup has chosen Angels from the Realms of Glory. “I love this version as it plays out the importance of Family and the true meaning of Christmas in the Nativity story”.
Christine Waddell has chosen Oh Holy night. “I don’t have any particular story to tell about its meaning to me, other than it gives me goose bumps every Christmas I hear it, and I enjoy singing it with my local choir ‘Sing it’. and I feel the words are very emotional.”.
