Christmas dinner in a tin

Here is an Advent challenge for you.  I know, it’s strictly not yet Advent but I don’t want to leave it any longer.

Christmas is approaching fast and people are still having to make the choice if to keep warm or feed their family.  This should not be happening.

We can help.

Let’s do all we can to give a family a Christmas they didn’t think they would have.  A Christmas where bellies are full and people can smile.

My challenge to you is to donate each Sunday between now and 17th December a ‘Christmas Dinner in a Tin (or a packet)’.

Such at a tin of meat or fish, tins of mixed vegetables and potatoes (or a packet of instant mash).  You could include puddings which can be warmed up in a microwave.  You get the idea.

The food you donate needs to require little or no cooking.  If people don’t have food to eat, chances are they are struggling to pay the bills to heat the food.

Dunfermline Foodbank

Unfortunately the Foodbank is unable to take fresh food as they do not have the storage facilities.

It isn’t all about food. Hygiene products are also needed including; deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap and sanitary products.

To help you know what to buy and donate each week, there will be a list of items the foodbank needs at the back of church. You can also check on the foodbank website. You can leave your food donations at the back at the church, remember the church is open every day. Or on Sunday morning at 10:10am you can pass them to Sally in the School car park.

If you are unable to get to the shops, you can make a financial donation.  There will be a bowl next to the drop off location at the back of church.

Be creative, be thoughtful and above all be generous.
