Church magazines 1949-1960

The church magazines from the time of Rev Rutherford have been scanned and made available here. A summary of the years 1949-60 has been added (more will be added later). Two highlights are:

Missionary partner – Rev Dr John Wilkinson – Kenya
He and his wife and family worked in rural hospitals during the dangerous times of the Mau Mau emergency. Missionaries in remote mission stations were a particular target.

Read the letters in the magazines (especially January 1953) and read more : Royal College of Physicians obituary and The heritage of Chogoria in ‘Life & Work’.

Closure of St Colme’s Church
Presbetry visited the churches of St Fillan’s, St Colme’s and Dalgety and reported that the stone work at St Colme’s was of poor quality and it also needed reharling – the cost of repairs would be significant.

The congregation then had had to make the difficult decission to close St Colme’s Church. Read more in the magazines – October letters 1957 & January 1958. Also Reflections from the Pew 12 & 13.

It appears that it was the people themselves who made the decision and it was not imposed on them.
