The poet, novelist and editor James Robertson has been named as patron of this year’s Christian Aid Sale at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church, Edinburgh.
Robertson is the author of seven novels including The Testament of Gideon Mack and News of the Dead, as well as four collections of short stories and five of poetry. Through his Scots language imprint Itchy Coo he also publishes Scots versions of popular children’s stories including Paddington, Winnie the Pooh and The Gruffalo.
He follows a long line of prestigious writers and artists who have been patrons of the sale, one of the largest charity book sales in the world and the largest volunteer-let fundraising event For Christian Aid in the UK.
This year’s sale takes place during Christian Aid Week, from Saturday May 13 until Friday May 19 (closed Sunday; late opening on Thursday). Donations of books, music, collectables, pictures, toys, games and jigsaws will be accepted at the church from Monday to Wednesday the previous week (May 8-10).
James Robertson is taking part in our 900th anniversary.
