Reflections from the Pew 36

We are now in the period of Lent, so over the next few weeks I’m continuing to look at the traditions, this week – giving up for Lent.

Have you given anything up for Lent?

A survey by the Independent say the post popular things to give up for lent are – Chocolate, Social Network, Alcohol, Twitter, Facebook, School, Meat, Sweats.

It is interesting that these are all food & drink and more recently social media has been added.

Would it be better to give up negative actions, for example, complaining, swearing, worrying, gossiping, etc?

Or would it be even better to do positive actions.

Give to charity, show gratitue, read the Gospel of Mark in one sitting spend more time with your family, etc.

Maybe if it was worth doing something for lent we should consider continuing with it all year?
