Reflections from the Pew 70

I came across the drawings shown below dated May 1900 for the pulpit for what was the ‘New’ Parish Church and we now know as the Church Hall. I imagined that this was a proposal and that something as grand as this would not be found in Aberdour.

But I was wrong, the photograph here shows the pulpit in the ‘New’ Parish Churtch (the Church Hall). As you can see the pulpit was sited on the south wall, so the minister would be able to read the bible etc.

Church Hall old inside

You can also see the balconies and a window on the east wall; it was a very imposing interior. In 1926, when St Fillan’s Church was restored, there must have been a lot of work converting the church into a hall. The hall today is very different from how it was the 19oo’s.

Today the Church of Scotland proposes closing St Fillan’s Church and we move back into the hall.

How important is the building in Worship?
