Fruits of the Spirit – week 1

Let us pray,
Lord prepare the ground in me, bring the rain and the sunshine, prune me where you must that I may bear your most luscious fruits to the glory of your name.
Amen

Setting the Scene

Galatians 5

Over the coming weeks we will take time to reflect on the fruits of the Spirit.

As any gardener knows, the conditions need to be just right to harvest a good crop.   There needs to be the right soil, water and sunlight.  There are times for pruning and times to flourish and grow.

Paul was responding to conflicting teaching about the need for gentile converts to be circumcised. He affirms our call to freedom, and to love our neighbour as ourselves. It being sufficient to fulfil the law on its own. He warns against misusing that freedom and encourages each one of us to practice the fruits of the Spirit.
