Fruits of the Spirit – week 5

Faithfulness
Matthew 25:14-30

Matthew 25:15
And to one he gave five talents, to another two and to another one, to each according to his own ability, and immediately took his journey.

Thought for the week
God delights to give his people responsibilities. What talents or responsibilities have you been given to invest in growing God’s Kingdom here in Fife? It doesn’t matter how big or small they may seem, what does matter is how you make use of them.

If we try to preserve what we have we may lose it, if we take a risk for God we can be confident that he will reward us abundantly.

Gentleness
Matthew 11:28-30

Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Thought for the week
What does it mean to be gentle?

Here are words associated with gentleness; meekness, mercy, humble, kindness, peaceable and generous.

As Christ has been gentle with us and not exacted the demands of the law, let us be Christ like with others being kind, compassionate and gentle.

1 Corinthians 9:25
Athletes exercise self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one.

Thought for the week
Choose to respond not react.

All habits, good and bad, are made up of a sequence of events which in turn trigger one another. At each of these triggers there is a fraction of a second in which we make a choice.

Let us practice making healthy choices which honour God and bring love, joy, peace patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and gentleness.
