Reflections from the Pew 43

This is the third of a series on the St Fillan’s stained glass windows, this week are the Millennium Windows. More information is available here.
Stained Glass Window 10

These windows were commissioned by the church for the Millennium. An equal sum was also given to charity. They are by designed Roland Mitton and depict Jesus being baptised by John the Baptist and the Nativity.

Rolland described the design process, he wanted to show the characters as ordinary people – you can see their faces show up clearly.

In the ‘Baptism’ he has included some thistles in the foreground, and in the ‘Nativity’ he has included holly and berries in the background. What else can you see?

The role of ordinary people in the church was highlighted recently in the Scotsman in an article entitled The ordinary people now leading church services in a bid to save the Kirk. St Fillan’s also gets a mention!  Read it here.
