This is a first of a series on the St Fillan’s stained glass windows. More information is available here.
I have selected three of the early windows that were designed by Alexander Strachan. Two of them are in the chancel so we do not normally see them.
I have chosen them as not only do they tell a story but they reference Aberdour.
- The first is of the Grey Sisters receiving a pilgrim at the hospice that stood on what is now the corner of Main Street and Murrell Terrace.
- The second is of St Columba, it shows him arriving at the island of Inchcolm.
- The third, the healing window shows Jesus healing a blind man, an inset at the bottom shows the Church (it is very small) and either the Dour burn or St Fillan’s well.
They are examples showing how the Christian message is made relevant to the place. When Jesus taught he used everyday example from life such as sowing and fishing
